Configuring Storage Rate Targets

The Storage Rate Target screen is used to define, review, and maintain monthly storage target percentages for each Local Distribution Company (LDC). These targets are used for storage planning, regulatory reporting, cost allocation, and seasonal demand management. This configuration supports utilities and marketers in establishing how storage volumes should be allocated across each month of the selected year range.

The primary purpose of the Storage Rate Target configuration is to:

  • Define monthly target percentages for each storage category associated with an LDC.
  • Build annual storage target structures for one or more planning years.
  • Support downstream modules such as storage forecasting, rate allocation, and seasonal balancing.
  • Allow users to maintain year-over-year target values as part of long-term planning.

Prerequisites

Before accessing the Storage Rate Target screen, ensure the following prerequisites are met:

  1. The user has valid credentials and the necessary permissions to access the Storage Rate Target (LDC Configuration) screen.
  2. The LDC is configured in the system and active.
  3. Storage categories for the LDC are already configured in the Storage Rate Category screen.
  4. The planning calendar (years) exists for the selected display range.
  5. Related LDC rate components or forecasting modules referencing storage targets are properly configured.

Procedure to configure Storage Rate Targets

Step 1: Navigate to the Storage Rate Target screen

  1. Log in to the nGenue application.
  2. Click the Search icon and enter Storage Rate Target in the search bar.
  3. Double-click Storage Rate Target (LDC Configuration) to open the respective screen.

  4. The Storage Rate Target screen is divided into two main sections:

    Target Creation section

    The Target Creation section allows users to select the LDC, define the planning year range, and generate (or load) the associated monthly target records.

    Fields Description
    LDC Displays all LDC configured in the system. Selecting an LDC loads the categories associated with that LDC. This field is required.
    Display Range (From Year) The starting year for which users want to view or build storage targets. The dropdown includes all active planning years.
    Display Range (To Year) The ending year of the planning period. The system builds one target row per month for every year between the start and end years.
    Build Targets Generates the monthly target rows for the selected LDC and year range. If data already exists, the system loads existing records rather than overwriting them.

    This section displays all storage rate categories configured for the selected LDC and their corresponding monthly target percentage values.

    Located on the left side of the screen, this panel displays a list of all storage categories linked to the selected LDC (for example: base gas, working gas, winter storage, etc.). Selecting a category loads its monthly target values in the right-hand panel.

    Monthly Target table

    The right panel displays a row for each month within the selected display range.

    Fields Description
    Month Displays the calendar month number (1–12). This field is generated automatically.
    Year Displays the year associated with the row. This is also system-generated based on user-selected display range.
    Target % The monthly storage target percentage for the selected category. Users can edit this value to set the planned storage level for each month.

    These values drive several downstream calculations in rate modeling, storage allocation, and forecasting modules.

Step 2: Build and maintain monthly targets

  1. In the Target Creation section:

    1. Select the LDC.
    2. Choose the From Year and To Year for the display range.

  2. Click Build Targets.

  3. The system generates (or loads) the target rows for all months within the selected range.

  4. In the Target Categories and Monthly Targets section:

    1. Select a storage category from the left panel.
    2. Update the Target % column for each month as needed.

  5. Save or continue editing based on the system’s save mechanism.

If no target data exists for the selected period, it is created. If data exists, the system displays it for review or modification.

Key points to remember

  1. The LDC field must be selected before building or reviewing targets.
  2. Target rows are built only for the selected year range.
  3. Storage categories are predefined and reflected automatically in this screen; they cannot be added here.
  4. Monthly Target % values influence downstream rate and forecasting calculations.
  5. Target data can be exported using the toolbar Excel icon for reporting, audits, or offline updates.
  6. The screen is used to plan storage behavior across seasons and fiscal years.
